HONOLULU – The No. 10 University of Hawai'i women's volleyball team swept Arizona on Sunday to win the Chevron Rainbow Wahine Invitational. The 'Bows topped the Wildcats 25-12, 25-16, 25-20 and improved to 3-0 while Arizona dropped to 2-1.
The 'Bows, who won their fourth straight tournament title, were led by Kanani Danielson's match-high 11 kills. Chanteal Satele posted 10 kills for a .588 attack percentage, with Emily Hartong and Jane Croson both adding seven kills.
Curtsy Jackson recorded a team-high nine kills for Arizona.
Hawai'i controlled the match from start to finish. The 'Bows raced out to a 14-5 advantage on block assists by Mita Uiato (32 assists) and Brittany Hewitt (6 kills, 4 blocks) as UH ran away with the set one win.
The 'Bows recorded the first five points in the second set to spearhead a 25-16 victory, then completed the sweep with a 25-20 win in set three. The 'Bows went on a 6-0 run midway through the final set to seal the win.
Rainbow Wahine players Hartong, Hewitt, and Danielson were selected to the all-tournament team with Danielson named Most Outstanding Player.
There were 5,735 tickets sold for the contest.
UH next hosts the Hawaiian Airlines Wahine Volleyball Classic beginning this Thursday, September 1. The 'Bows first play Ohio State at 7:00 p.m. with matches against Long Beach State and UCLA on Friday and Sunday.
