HONOLULU – University of Hawai'i head women's volleyball coach Dave Shoji announced the hiring of Robyn Ah Mow-Santos as the new assistant coach on the Rainbow Wahine volleyball staff.
“I'm thrilled that we're able to hire a former alumnus with so much knowledge of the game,” said Coach Shoji. “Robyn is one of the all-time greats in UH history and we're excited that she's returned to the program. She'll work with our setters and her experience as a three-time Olympian will only help them get better. During her professional career, she's learned from many great international coaches and she'll bring some of that knowledge to our program.”
Ah Mow-Santos played for Coach Shoji at UH from 1993-96. She was a two-time AVCA first team all-America selection, and was a three-time all-conference performer. The Honolulu native ranks third in the UH record book in career assists (4,313) and fourth in assists per game (11.23). AhMow-Santos was inducted into the UH Sports Circle of Honor in 2006.
After her career with the Rainbow Wahine, AhMow-Santos played for the U.S. National Team where she was a three-time Olympian, starting at setter for the USA in the 2000 and 2004 Olympic Games. In 2008, she helped guide the USA to a silver medal finish at the Beijing Olympics.
Ah Mow-Santos also competed professionally overseas. She played in Italy and Portugal and most recently for VBC Volero Zurich in Switzerland where she earned league Most Valuable Player honors.
