Day 2 Results - Heptathlon
HONOLULU – The University of Hawai'i sophomore
Samantha Balentine finished in eighth place in the heptathlon at the 2011 Western Athletic Conference Outdoor Championships Wednesday at the Clarence T.C. Ching Field.
Balentine scored a season-best 4,705 points and scored one team point for the Rainbow Wahine. Also competing for UH was freshman
Kaleigh Morrison, who posted a personal-best 4,527 points and placed ninth.
Balentine entered the second day of competition in sixth place and set a season-best in the long jump with a mark of 16-11.5 (5.17m). She finished the day with a throw of 97-11 (29.84m) in the javelin and 2:34.26 in the 800-meter run.
Morrison set another personal best in the javelin with a huge throw of 117-7 (35.84m) which ranked third among all 12 competitors. She started the day with the third-best long jump of 17-7.5 (5.37m) and ended with a 2:41.91 mark in the 800-meters. In all, Morrison set seven personal best marks during the two-day event.
Utah State's Chari Hawkins won the event with 5,124 points while Louisiana Tech's Jesseka Jones took silver with 5,088 points and Boise State's Alexi Morton won bronze with 4,961 points.
The WAC Championships continues on Thursday at Ching Field.
