LAS CRUCES, N.M. – The University of Hawai'i women's tennis team began its final stretch of regular-season matches with a 4-3 loss to New Mexico State Friday morning at the New Mexico State Tennis Center. The Rainbow Wahine dropped to 8-11 overall and 2-2 in the Western Athletic Conference while the Aggies improved to 12-7 and 3-3 in the conference.
The match started with the New Mexico State sweeping all three doubles matches to take the first point of the day. Barbara Pinterova and Katarina Poljakova fought hard at the No. 1 court but were narrowly defeated, 8-7, by Manon Sylvani and Jodie Williams of New Mexico State.
In singles play, New Mexico State clinched the match with wins on three of six courts. Freshman Xenia Suworowa captured her fifth win in a row in singles action, defeating Ginet Pinero, 5-7, 7-5, 7-6 at the No. 3 position. Poljakova and Alyssa Nafarrete were able to add two more points for the Rainbow Wahine with exciting three set victories at the No. 1 and No. 6 positions.
UH will conclude the regular season with a match against WAC rival No. 72 Boise State on Sunday, April 24. The match will take place on the Bronco's campus at the Appleton Tennis Center. First serve is at 12:00 pm MT (8:00 am HT).
