Rainbow Sailors Place Third At PCCSC Team Race Championship

REDWOOD CITY, Calif. – The University of Hawaii coed sailing team concluded its season with a third-place finish at the PCCSC Team Race Championship held April 16-17. Host Stanford won the regatta and UC Irvine placed second as each school secured a berth for the team race nationals in May.
 
UH just missed out on a second striaght berth to the team nationals with a 9-6 overall record, one win behind UC Irvine. Six teams competed in the regatta. After a double round-robin, Stanford, UC Irvine, UH and UC Santa Barbara advanced to a “Final Four” round on Sunday. UH trailed UC Irvine by two wins and needed a clean sweep of the final three races. However the Rainbows came up one win short, claiming two of three races in the final round. 
 
Zachary Hester, William PetersenAdam Pokras and Craig Schifferns served as skippers during the competition while crew members included Lani JohnsonCienna Patmont and Lindsay Stewart.
 
The coed team failed to qualify for nationals in the dinghy and team racing events, however, the Rainbow Wahine can earn a spot in the women's nationals if they finish in the top three of next weeks PCCSC Women's Championship.
