SACRAMENTO, Calif. - The University of Hawai`i women's tennis team was clipped by Nevada, 4-3, in its conference opener on Saturday. UH dropped to 5-10 overall and 0-1 in the Western Athletic Conference.
The teams were originally scheduled to meet in San Jose but rain forced the match to an indoor court in Sacramento. The teams split the six singles matches as UH got wins from
Barbara Pinterova at the No. 3 court,
Alyssa Nafarrete at the No. 5 court and
Xenia Suworowa made a successful debut in a UH uniform with a three-set win at the No. 6 position.
The difference however came in doubles where the Wolf Pack (4-7, 1-0) swept all three points to take the all-important point.
The Rainbow Wahine next play host to UCLA in the Mauna Lani Tennis Classic on the Big Island, March 21-22.
