Arakawa Grabs First Win, Rainbows Top Centenary

HONOLULU – The University of Hawai'i baseball team defeated Centenary College tonight, 7-1. The win was the third straight for the Rainbows, who even their record at 9-9. The Gents drop to 3-8. 

Jarrett Arakawa (1-1) earned his first career win. He tossed a career-high eight innings and recorded six strikeouts, also a career high. Seth Lugo (2-2) was tagged with the loss for Centenary, allowing five earned runs in four and one-third innings of work. 

The 'Bows led 2-0 before breaking the game open in the fifth inning. A series of bases loaded walks coupled with a Jeff Van Doornum double (1 H, 1 R) and a Kolten Wong (2-3, 1 RBI) RBI-single helped UH to the big inning and a 6-0 lead. 

R.J. Talamantes led the Gents with one hit and one RBI. 

Garrett Champion had another fine performance, batting 2-3 with one run. Michael Blake batted 2-4 with one run and two RBI in his first start at first base. 

There were 3,285 tickets issued for the contest and a turnstile count of 1,986. 

The 'Bows and Gents play game three of the series tomorrow. First pitch is set for 1:05 p.m.
