Rainbows Too Much For Centenary

HONOLULU – The University of Hawai'i baseball team defeated Centenary College tonight, 10-1. The margin of victory was the largest of the season for the Rainbows, as they improve to 8-9 on the season. The Gents fall to 3-7. 

Matt Sisto (1-2) pitched a career-high eight innings for the win, allowing one run on six hits with seven strikeouts. Gent starter Cole Thompson (0-4) was tagged with the loss in just one inning of work. 

Garrett Champion led UH in his first action in a Rainbow uniform. He batted 3-4 with two runs and two RBI, including one double and a homerun. Kolten Wong record two hits, one run, and three RBI, and Sean Montplaisir added two hits, one run, and one RBI. 

Kyle Morton led Centenary in the losing effort, batting 2-3 with one run and one RBI. 

The 'Bows plated eight of their 10 runs in the first three innings. Champion drove in David Peterson with a double, and Wong and Pi'ikea Kitamura (2-3, 2 RBI) each recorded RBI to help UH to a 5-0 lead.  

The lead swelled to 8-0 in the fourth inning. Champion belted a solo homerun for the first run and Zach Swasey (1 H, 1 RBI) added a sacrifice fly for the final run on the inning. 

Jesse Moore added two hits and two runs for the 'Bows. 

There were 3,031 tickets issued for the contest and a turnstile count of 1,940.    

The 'Bows and Gents retake the field tomorrow night for game two of the series. First pitch is set for 6:35 p.m.
