Balentine Finishes Fifth At WAC Indoor

Day 1 Results

NAMPA, Idaho – University of Hawai'i sophomore Samantha Balentine finished in fifth place in the pentathlon at the 2011 Western Athletic Conference Indoor Track and Field Championships, Thursday, at Jackson's Track.
 
Balentine completed the five disciplines with a season-best 3,407 points while teammate Kaleigh Morrison placed 12th with personal-best 3,169 points.
 
Balentine tied for first in the high jump with a mark of 5-6 (1.68m) and set a new personal best in the long jump at 16-8 (5.08m). Entering the day's final event – 800 meters – Balentine was in seventh place but her time of 2:31.56 moved her up to fifth overall.
 
Morrison set new PRs in the 60-meter hurdles (9.85), long jump (17-4.25/5.29m), and 800-meters (2:41.76).
 
For her fifth place finish, Balentine was named second-team all-WAC in the event for the second consecutive year. Last year, she placed fourth with 3,468 points.
 
The meet continues on Friday at Jackson's Track.
