RENO, Nev.—The University of Hawai`i women's basketball team (8-16, 2-9 WAC) kept things close in the first half, but Nevada (17-7, 6-5 WAC) pulled away in the end to down UH, 69-42 at the Lawlor Events Center on Saturday night. The 'Bows were led by
Megan Tinnin who tallied 11 points while
Breanna Arbuckle grabbed a team-high six rebounds.
The Rainbow Wahine were down nine points at the half, 23-32, but in the second half, the Wolf Pack held UH to just 19 points on 5-of-33 shooting from the floor. Hawai`i shot a season-low field goal percentage of 23.3 in the game. Nevada dominated scoring in the paint, doubling up on the 'Bows 32-to-16 while also having a 17-to-7 advantage in second chance points. Hawai`i's bench was a bright spot, outscoring the Wolf Pack's reserves, 18-to-17.
Tinnin's 11 points came off of 3-of-6 shooting from the floor with one 3-pointer and 4-of-4 shooting from the free-throw line. She added two rebounds an assist, a block and two steals off the bench.
Shawna-Lei Kuehu was second on the squad with eight points on 4-of-9 shooting. She grabbed four rebounds with an assist and three steals. Arbuckle led the 'Bows on the glass and had two points and two blocks.
The loss snapped UH's two game road trip, but lengthened their road conference losing streak to 18 games. Hawai`i's last road WAC victory came at Utah State, 63-61, Jan.
30, 2009.
Hawai`i continues their three-game roadtrip next at New Mexico State on Tuesday, Feb. 15 at New Mexico State at 7:00 pm.
