HONOLULU—The University of Hawai`i women's basketball team (3-7) returned home after 20 days away from the Stan Sheriff Center to open the Chevron Rainbow Wahine Shootout with a 78-66 win over Portland State (5-4). Sophomore forward Kamilah Jackson tallied season-highs with 22 points and 19 rebounds to lead UH. The 'Bows also got a boost from Vicky Tagalicod and Kalei Adolpho who both made their basketball season debuts.

Two other Hawai`i players logged double-digits in points—Kanisha Bello scored a career-high 15 points with five rebounds and Tagalicod made her first appearance in a Hawai`i uniform, sinking 11 points with five boards, an assist and a blocked shot. A transfer from USC, Tagalicod started and played in her first game since her junior season at Hilo High School in 2008.

Also making her first basketball appearance was freshman Kalei Adolpho, who scored six points with two blocked shots and eight rebounds—a couple of which helped seal the win for UH in the waning moments of the game. Adolpho, a freshman from Moloka`i High School, joined the team after a full season as a middle hitter on the Rainbow Wahine volleyball team.

Hawai`i was outscored 22-to-16 in the paint and 20-to-4 in points off turnovers, but the 'Bows won the rebounding battle against the Vikings, 55-to-39. The Rainbow Wahine shot a season-high 50.0% from the floor (24-for-48) while holding Portland State to a 29.4% field goal percentage. UH's 78 points and 55 boards were also season-highs. It marked UH's first home win over a Division I opponent this season.

Hawai`i took a 42-37 lead at the half with Jackson leading the way, already logging her fifth double-double of the season and 18th double-double of her career in the first 20 minutes of the game. She had 14 points and 11 rebounds to lead UH with Bello right behind her with 10 points.

In the second half, the 'Bows built as big a lead as 16 points four times before the Vikings went on a 14-to-2 run to cut UH's lead to just four points. But UH would respond with an 8-0 run of their own with two Adolpho free-throws, a free throw by Breanna Arbuckle, a 3-point shot by Alissa Campanero, and a layup by Arbuckle to pull away from Portland State for good.

UH continues the Chevron Rainbow Wahine Shootout tomorrow at 7:00 pm against Denver. Portland State will battle UC Davis in the early game starting at 5:00 pm.
