HONOLULU – The University of Hawai'i women's basketball got off to a fast start and never looked back in a 83-46 rout of BYU-Hawai'i in an exhibition game Friday at the Stan Sheriff Center. Using a smothering pressure defense, the Rainbow Wahine scored 18 unanswered points to start the game and easily picked up their second exhibition win of the year.
The Rainbow Wahine built a double-digit less than three minutes into the game and ultimately forced 27 Seasider turnovers with 16 off of UH steals. UH also dominated the boards with a 55-32 advantage.
UH played without one of its top guns in
Shawna-Lei Kuehu, but Idaho transfer
Kanisha Bello more than picked up the slack with a game-high 18 points. The sophomore guard scored 13 of those points in the first half and finished 7-of-14 from the floor, including 4-of-7 from 3-point land.

Alissa Campanero each chipped in 11 points. All nine Rainbow Wahine who suited up saw action and got in the scoring column.
UH held the Seasiders scoreless for the first seven minutes of the game as Tessa Carter finally broke through for BYUH at the13:55 mark. The Rainbow Wahine held a 35-17 lead at the break, with nearly half of their points coming off BYUH turnovers. UH snared eight steals by halftime helping lead to a number of easy transition buckets.
Hawai'i didn't let up in the second half, going on a 16-3 run out of the locker room to take a 31-point lead. UH built its lead to as many as 39 points in the second half.
The game was UH's final tune-up before its regular-season opener against UH-Hilo on Friday, Nov. 11. Tipoff is set for 5:00 p.m. at the Stan Sheriff Center with a men's exhibition against Hawai'i Pacific to follow at 7:00 p.m.
