Women's Basketball Travels to New York to Battle Army

WEST POINT, N.Y.—The University of Hawai`i women's basketball team (1-6) embarks on its farthest roadtrip in program history when it makes its way to New York to play Army at its historic West Point campus on Thursday, Dec. 1 and Columbia on Saturday, Dec. 3, 2011.
 
The Rainbow Wahine are looking to snap a six-game losing streak against Army (5-2) to capture its first win against Division I competition this season. The 'Bows have faced stiff competition early with five of its first six opponents being either ranked or receiving votes in the national polls.
 
Sophomore forward Kamilah Jackson leads Hawai`i into battle averaging team-highs with 14.4 points and 8.4 rebounds per game. Senior guard Breanna Arbuckle is coming off a strong tournament performance last week in which she scored a career-high 22 points against No. 24 Texas. Arbuckle is averaging 12.1 points and 5.3 boards per game and also has a team-high 10 blocked shots and is second on the squad with 2.0 assists per game. Making a return to the starting line-up this past week was sophomore guard Shawna-Lei Kuehu. Kuehu struggled mightily offensively but put up solid numbers with 19 rebounds, five assists, ­and three blocked shots with 17 points in three games.
 
About Army…
Head coach Army, Dave Magarity and the Black Knights are 5-2 overall and are looking to rebound after an away loss at Columbia, 63-58 but are off to its best start since 2006-07. Army is led by sophomore guard/forward Jen Hazlett and junior guard Anna Simmers. Hazlett has started five of the seven games and has team-highs with 13.0 points and 6.1 rebounds per game and 13 steals. Simmers is second with 10.8 points per game and 16 assists.
