Women's Basketball

No. 24 Texas Pulls Away from Hawai`i, 71-50

Box Score
HONOLULU—The University of Hawai`i women's basketball team (1-6) dropped its final game of the Waikiki Beach Marriott Rainbow Wahine Showdown to No. 24 Texas (5-1), 71-50. Senior Breanna Arbuckle led UH scoring a career-high 22 points in the loss on Sunday night at the Stan Sheriff Center.

Arbuckle sank 8-of-12 shots from the floor and 6-of-7 from the free throw line to score her 22 points. She also accounted for two rebounds, two assists, two blocks, and a steal. Her previous career high was 18 points against Idaho as a sophomore. Arbuckle accounted for 44 percent of the team's scoring as the rest of the squad finished 9-for-39 in the game.

Three Rainbow Wahine contributed eight points apiece—Kamilah Jackson, Alissa Campanero, and Shawna-Lei Kuehu. For Jackson, it was the first game of the 2011-12 season that she did not record double-digits in points. She grabbed a team-high six rebounds with two assists, a block and a steal. Campanero shot 3-of-13 with a pair of 3-pointers with two rebounds, two steals and an assist. Kuehu went 3-for-10 from the fllor  with three boards, two assists, a block and a steal.

The 'Bows came out and gave everything they had, jumping out to a 10-4 lead out of the gate with Arbuckle and Jackson combining for all of UH's scoring early. But the Longhorns came back with a vengeance to over take the 'Bows at the 9:45 mark in the first half and never looked back. Texas' significant size advantage led to a 42-to-20 lead in points in the paint but just a slight edge in rebounding at 37-to-31. But the Longhorns were able to convert UH's 20 turnovers into 28 points to UH's nine and the Texas bench outscored UH, 21-to-2.

Texas was led by the tournament's Most Valuable Player, Chassidy Fussell's 15 points, while Yvonne Anderson chipped in 13. All 10 of Texas' players scored at least two points in the game. The Longhorns went 3-0 to capture the tournament title.
