Breanna Arbuckle led the 'Bows with 16 points and a team-high six rebounds on Friday night at the Stan Sheriff Center in front of 1,412 fans.
Arbuckle was 7-of-9 from the floor and 2-of-3 from the free-throw line. She also had one block to raise her career mark to 109. Sophomore
Kamilah Jackson added 10 points and five boards with two assists and two steals. It was the fourth straight loss for the Rainbow Wahine.
As a team, Hawai`i was outrebounded 39-to-23—including 16 offensive board that led to 20 second-chance points. California used their size advantage to outscore UH 38-to-20 in the paint. The Rainbow Wahine played just eight players, and the thin bench was able to score 12 points to Cal's 30.
In the first half, the 'Bows fell behind early and by about the half-way point were down, 19-10. But UH then went on a 8-0 run to cut their deficit to 19-18. Cal responded with a 14-4 run of their own and never looked back. The Golden Bears took a 37-26 lead into the half.
Arbuckle led UH in the second half on 4-of-6 shooting for 10 points. But for Cal, Reshanda Gray and Brittany Boyd fueled their charge with 14 and 10 points a piece in the second half. Gray had 16 points overall to lead Cal while Talia Caldwell pulled down a game-high seven rebounds.
The tournament continues tomorrow when UH will battle No. 22 Virginia at 2:00 p.m. The first game of the day features No. 24 Texas vs. California at 12:00 p.m. In Friday's early game, the Longhorns upset Virginia, 79-53.
