San Diego State Runs Away from Rainbow Wahine, 71-44

HONOLULU—The University of Hawai`i women's basketball team were overpowered by San Diego State, 71-44.  Kamilah Jackson led the 'Bows with 14 points in the loss on the second day of the Jack in the Box Rainbow Wahine Classic.
 
Jackson shot 4-of-9 from the floor and grabbed five rebounds and had a block and a steal. Kanisha Bello added 10 points on 3-of-8 shooting with a steal and one of UH's two assists on the night.
 
The Aztecs led from the get go and never looked back, shooting 32-of-67 from the floor for a 47.5 field-goal percentage while SDSU's stifling defense  held UH to just 10 field goals in the game for 25.6%. The 10 made shots tied a program game-low (Rice - Jan. 17, 2002). The 'Bows were also out-rebounded 35-to-21. San Diego State's reserve players out-scored the 'Bows thin bench, 29-of-5 off the bench and 26-to-10 in points in the paint.
 
San Diego State's Courtney Clements led all scorers with 18 points while Melissa Sweat corralled a game-high six rebounds. All thirteen Aztecs who played grabbed at least one rebound and 12-of-13 scored at least two points.
 
Shawna-Lei Kuehu scored two points with two rebounds and two blocks in her return to the court after missing UH's last two exhibition games and Friday's game against Portland due to injury.
The Rainbow Wahine close the Jack in the Box Rainbow Wahine Classic on Sunday against No. 18 DePaul at 5:00 p.m.
