MOSCOW, Idaho – The University of Hawai'i women's soccer dropped its first league match of the year with a 4-2 loss to Idaho Friday afternoon at Guy Wicks Field. The Rainbow Wahine dropped to 3-9 overall and 2-1 in the Western Athletic Conference.
After opening up WAC play last weekend with a pair of big home wins against Utah State and Nevada, the Rainbow Wahine found the going rough on the road. The Vandals (5-8-2, 1-2 WAC) scored the first three goals of the match and never looked back in gaining their first WAC win of the year.
The loss kept UH winless on the mainland this year (0-6), although the Rainbow Wahine did end a streak of four straight scoreless matches away from home with a pair of second-half strikes.
Krystal Pascau scored for the second straight match and her third goal of the season to prevent the shutout in the 65
th minute, while
Rachel Domingo netted her first goal of the season in the 85
th minute.
However, both goals were too-little, too-late against an Idaho squad that got goals from Lilly Archer (15th minute) and Chelsie Breen (35
th minute) in the first half and Bailey Hewitt (50
th minute) and Katie Baran (73
rd minute) in the second half.
UH actually out-shot the Vandals, 18-17, although Idaho had 10 shots on goal to UH's six.
Kanani Taaca recorded six saves in goal for the Rainbow Wahine.
The Rainbow Wahine now head to Seattle for a non-conference match-up on Sunday, Oct. 9. Kickoff is set for 1:00 p.m. PT (10:00 a.m.).
