No. 7 Rainbow Wahine Turn Back Bulldogs

FRESNO, Calif. – The No. 7 University of Hawai'i women's volleyball team defeated Fresno State on Thursday in four sets (25-20, 25-18, 23-25, 25-18). UH improves to 23-1 overall and 11-0 in the Western Athletic Conference while the Bulldogs drop to 10-12 overall and 4-5 in conference.

Jane Croson posted a match-high 17 kills to go along with nine digs. Kanani Danielson recorded 14 kills and 16 digs, and Brittany Hewitt added a match-high seven blocks.

For Fresno State, Korrin Wild had 15 kills and Cecilia Agraz had 19 digs.

The Rainbow Wahine held a slim lead for the first half of set one then began to pull away. Leading by one point, Danielson, Hewitt, and Chanteal Satele (9 kills, 5 blocks) all recorded kills to give UH a 17-11 lead, but the Bulldogs rallied to cut the advantage to 22-20. The 'Bows had a response of their own, as Croson and Danielson buried kills to give UH the win.

FS was leading 13-11 in set two, but saw UH catch fire and race to a 25-18 win. Wild recorded a kill to bring her team level at 18-18, but the 'Bows scored the final seven points of the set to take a 2-0 lead. Hewitt and Satele both recorded a trio of block assists to lead Hawai'i down the stretch.

After a hiccup in set three, the 'Bows closed out the match with a 25-18 set four win. They controlled the set from the start, scoring five straight points early before expanding the lead to 14-6.

The Rainbow Wahine conclude their three-match road trip on Saturday, Oct. 29 against Nevada. Start time is set for 7:00 p.m. PT.
