Swimming & Diving Finishes On Top At UC San Diego

HONOLULU – The University of Hawai`i men's swimming & diving team swept Wyoming and UC San Diego for the second consecutive day, defeating the Cowboys and the Tritons, 179.5-120.5 and 206-94 respectively. 

On the women's side, UH defeated Wyoming 155-145 but fell to San Diego State 152-144. In total, the Rainbow Wahine won four events total while the Rainbow Warriors dominated the men's side, winning 11 events.
 
Senior Ilia Reyes led the Rainbow Warriors, taking first place in the 100 free (45.97) and setting a new pool record of 20.54 seconds in the 50 free. Lazar Bogdanovski and Perry Sharify also set new pool records after winning the 200 back (1:50.03) and 200 breast (2:03.52), respectively.
 
Also leading the way for UH was James Clarke, who won the 500 free (4:33.17), Luca Mazzurana, who won the 100 fly (49.65), and Rezne Wong, who took first in the 400 IM (4:04.07).
 
The Rainbow Warriors finished on top of both relay events, taking first both the 200 medley and 200 freestyle relays.
 
Both men's and women's diving teams excelled on both the 1-meter and 3-meter dives. Junior Douglas Cohen won the men's 3-meter with a score of 352.70 and took second on the 1-meter (324.95) while Thomas Rugg followed in third (300.20).
 
The women's diving team swept both events, with seniors Stephanie De Lima and Emma Friesen winning the 3-meter (296.60) and 1-meter (295.25) events, respectively.
 
Sophomore Taylor Ritenberg led the Rainbow Wahine winning two e vents. Ritenberg took first in the 100 breast with a time of 1:03.93 and set a new pool record at UCSD in the 200 breast with a time of 2:15.64.
 
The Rainbow Wahine will next see action at the Western Athletic Conference Championships in San Antonio, Texas from Feb. 23-26. The Rainbow Warriors will compete at the Conference-USA Championships in Houston, Texas from Feb. 23-26.
