HONOLULU – The University of Hawai'i won its first match of the spring season with a 6-1 victory over San Francisco Wednesday at the UH Tennis Complex. UH evened its record to 1-1 on the young season.
Despite a break from play of almost three weeks, UH came out strong against the Dons taking seven of nine courts combined in doubles and singles.
The day started with singles action as UH took five of six matches, securing the win. The Rainbow Wahine dominated singles with four of five players winning in straight sets. Meanwhile,
Magdalena Ploch defeated Julia Wartenburger 6-2, 4-6, 6-3 at the No. 1 court in the most competitive match of the day.
Despite an early injury, the Rainbow Wahine took two of the three doubles matches highlited by an 8-2 win coming from the duo of
Alyssa Nafarrete and
Katarina Poljakova at the No. 1 court..
The Rainbow Wahine will face San Francisco again on Friday, Jan. 28 at 1:30 p.m. and then BYU on Saturday, Jan. 29 at 11:00 a.m. at the UH Tennis Complex.
