HONOLULU – A total of 13 teams representing seven schools competed in the 2011 Peter Wenner Rainbow Invite Jan. 22-23 at Keehi Lagoon with the University of Hawai`i capturing the regatta for the first time three years.

Thirteen races in each the A and B divisions were completed during the two-day event, named after former Rainbow sailor Peter Wenner, who tragically lost his life in a recreational boating accident in November 2008. The host University of Hawai`i Rainbow sailing team fielded four teams in all, including three coed and one women's team. Three of the teams—Rainbows 1, 2 & 4 finished in the top four in the standings.

Rainbows 1 headed by Tahnee Allman, William Petersen, Zachary Hester and Laura Hughes  took home the regatta with 93 points, three points ahead of runner-up UC Irvine. Rainbows 4, powered by the Rainbow Wahine Hannah Tuson-Turner, Hanne Nagatani and Madeline Kennedy  was the women's top finisher and placed third overall with 109 points.

Rainbows 2 finished in fourth overall and were headed by Adam Pokras and Ciena Patmont, who captured the A division with a regatta-low 36 points. Rainbows 3 led by Craig Schifferns and Lindsay Stewart placed seventh with 161 points.

The coed team next competes in the Jeremy McIntyre Team Race in California, March 5-6 in Redwood City, Calif. The Rainbow Wahine, meanwhile, are back in action in the South Florida Women's Intersectional, Feb. 19-20.
