LAS CRUCES, N.M. – Powered by another record-setting performance, the University of Hawai'i captured at least a share of its fourth Western Athletic Conference championship with 59-24 rout of New Mexico State Saturday afternoon at Aggie Memorial Stadium. Senior Alex Green rushed for a school-record 327 yards as UH improved to 9-3 overall and finished league play with a 7-1 mark.

A week after Bryant Moniz set a new UH passing mark, Green took down a 60-year old rushing record, surpassing Pete Wilson's mark of 270 yards set in 1950. Green rushed for 169 yards by halftime and eclipsed the record in less than three quarters of action. The native of Portland, Ore., who scored three touchdowns, exploded for six runs of 30 yards or longer and averaged 17.2 yards on 19 carries

With his huge performance Green also surpassed 1,000 yards on the season becoming just the seventh Warrior to achieve the feat and first since Travis Sims in 1992.

Green was not the only record-breaking Warrior on the day. Senior receiver Greg Salas surpassed Jason Rivers as the school's all-time leader in receiving yards with a 37-yard reception late in the first half. Salas finished with 10 catches for 191 yards and a touchdown and now has 4,000 career yards, a first for a UH player..

UH got off to a slow start, however, never trailed in the game. The Warriors took a 31-10 lead into the locker room and by the end of the game racked up 606 yards of offense, its second straight game of more than 600 yards of offense.

The Warrior defense held New Mexico State (2-10, 1-7 WAC) to just 214 yards of total offense, much of that coming late in the game with the result in hand. UH recorded two interceptions, three sacks and scored a defensive touchdown for the second straight week when Aaron Brown put the finishing touches on the UH win with a 33-yard interception return..

UH wrapped up its WAC season with just one loss in eight league games. The Warriors could win the outright WAC title should Boise State (6-1) and Nevada (6-1) stumble in their finales next week.

The Warriors now return for the final regular-season home game of the year against UNLV on Saturday, Dec. 4 at Aloha Stadium with kickoff at 5:30 p.m. UH will honor 30 seniors during the traditional “Senior Night” ceremony following the game.
