KA'A'AWA, O'ahu – The University of Hawai'i women's cross country team opened the 2009 season with a third place finish at the Hawai'i Pacific Invitational Saturday at Kualoa Ranch. Individually, Rainbow Wahine newcomer

Mariana Monasi placed second and fourth, respectively.
Forrester, a transfer from the University of Tampa, where she was a Division II All-American, concluded the 5K race in 18:05, just seven seconds behind winner Theresia Schnurr of the Alaska-Fairbanks. Monasi, UH's top returning runner, crossed the finish line in 18:41.
BYU-Hawai'i captured the team title with 49 points followed by Humboldt State (52), Hawai'i (77), Alaska-Fairbanks (86), HPU (100), UH-Hilo (144), and Chaminade (220).
The HPU Invite was the first of seven regular season meets for the Rainbow Wahine this season. Up next is the Big Wave Invitational, which UH will host at the Kane'ohe Klipper Golf Course, Sept. 19.
