WAIPAHU, O'ahu – The University of Hawai'i Rainbow Wahine soccer team (3-6-1) defeated Detroit-Mercy (2-6-1) 1-0 in OHANA Hotels and Resorts Shootout at Waipi'o Peninsula Soccer Stadium Thursday.
Britta Bourne scored the lone goal of the match in the 68th minute on a low shot past the goalie after a long through ball. Bourne ended up with 15 shots, including 11 shots on goal.
As a team, Hawai'i out-shot Detroit 24-3, with an 15-1 advantage in shots on goal.
The Rainbow Wahine started putting the pressure on the Titans early on, taking four shots on goal in a span of three minutes from the 17th to 20th minutes.
After a couple of corner kicks taken by
Ambree Ako in the 65th minute, UH finally got the ball in the net as Bourne got it on a long through ball and had enough space to get it past the goalie.
The two teams play again Saturday, at 7 p.m., at Waipi'o Peninsula Soccer Stadium.
