BAKERSFIELD, Calif. – The University of Hawai'i Rainbow Wahine soccer team (2-6-1) closed out their four-match road trip with a 2-1 win over Cal State Bakersfield (4-6-0) at Main Soccer Field Sunday.
Hawai'i out-shot the Roadrunners 12-6, including a 7-3 advantage in shots on goal, helping them end a five-match losing streak.
The Rainbow Wahine opened the scoring in the 15th minute on a long goal by
Kristyn Shapka, assisted by
Mari Punzal. CS Bakersfield tied it up in the 46th minute, as Kassi Massey scored early in the second half.
Kanani Taaca played all 90 minutes in goal to get the victory, finishing with two saves and one goal against.
UH now returns home for two matches against Detroit Mercy on Thursday, Sept. 24, and Saturday, Sept. 26. Both matches will be at 7 p.m. and will be played at the Waipi'o Peninsula Soccer Stadium.
