MALIBU, Calif. – The University of Hawai'i Rainbow Wahine soccer team (1-4-1) started their four-match road trip with a 2-0 loss at Pepperdine (4-1-1) at Tari Frahm Rokus Soccer Stadium Sunday.
The Rainbow Wahine were out-shot 22-4 in the match, including an 11-1 edge in shots on goal. Goalie
Kristina Ehrett played all 90 minutes in goal, finishing with nine saves.
Vanessa Bailey had a team-high two shots while
Chelsey Goo had UH's only shot on goal.
The Waves got on the board in the 32nd minute as Sophia Medina scored on a rebounded deflection inside the six yard box.
UH had a chance to tie it in the 43rd minute as
Ambree Ako took a corner kick that resulted in Goo's shot on goal. After Pepperdine's Roxanne Baxter got her lone save of the match, the Waves quickly turned the tables, as Michelle Spacciapolli rebounded a shot off the crossbar and punched it back in, giving PU the 2-0 lead at the end of the half.
Pepperdine protected the lead well in the second half, allowing just one shot by Hawai'i, preserving the victory.
The Rainbow Wahine continue the trip with a match at Cal State Fullerton at 7 p.m., on Wednesday, Sept. 16.
