Rainbow Wahine Soccer Beats HPU 4-1

WAIPAHU, O`ahu – The University of Hawai`i Rainbow Wahine soccer team (1-1-1) defeated the Hawai`i Pacific Sea Warriors 4-1 at the Waipio Peninsula Soccer Stadium Sunday.
 
Britta Bourne continued to lead UH offensively, scoring two goals on four shots, all on goal. Chelsea Deptula and Vanessa Bailey also scored for the Rainbow Wahine with Brittani Lum, Mari Punzal and Rachel Domingo posting assists. UH put up a season-high 24 shots and 13 shots on goal, allowing just six shots (three on goal) by HPU.
 
Bourne got Hawai`i on the board in the 21st minute, scoring on a shot to the low right corner after Lum sent a long pass up the field to set up a one-on-one with the HPU goalie. Deptula then added another goal in the 39th minute, scoring on a header off a cross by Punzal, making it 2-0 at the half.
 
UH continued the scoring in the second half as Bourne took a flick from Domingo and scored it in the low right corner in the 49th minute. Bailey then added a goal in the 53rd minute, scoring in traffic on a rebound, pushing the Rainbow Wahine lead to 4-0.
 
HPU scored its lone goal in the 81st minute as Amber Fuller beat the goalie on a long through ball, making the final score 4-1.
 
The Rainbow Wahine next host UAB and Pacific in the Outrigger Hotels and Resorts Soccer Classic from Sept. 4-6. UH faces UAB on Friday, Sept. 4, at 4 p.m., and Pacific on Sunday, Sept. 6, at 5 p.m. The Blazers will play Pacific on Saturday, Sept. 5, at 7 p.m.
