Rainbow Wahine Soccer Falls To No. 2 Stanford 6-2

WAIPAHU, O`ahu – The University of Hawai`i Rainbow Wahine soccer team (0-1-1) fell to the No. 2 Stanford Cardinal (1-0-0) OHANA Hotels & Resorts No Ka `Oi at the Waipio Peninsula Soccer Stadium Sunday.
 
UH got its first two goals of the season from Rachel Domingo and Britta Bourne, while Skye Shimabukuro and Ambree Ako each had an assist. Bourne also led UH with three shots while both Kristina Ehrett and Kanani Taaca both posted four saves with three goals against.
 
Stanford started the scoring early as Kelley O'Hara, who ended up with two goals, scored on a breakaway in the fourth minute of the match. Courtney Verloo then added a goal in the 38th minute with Teresa Noyola scoring in the 40th minute to make it 3-0 at the half.
 
The Rainbow Wahine got on the board early in the second half, as Shimabukuro sent a low cross to Domingo for the touch into the back of the net n the 53rd minute.
 
But the Cardinal kept at it, as two goals by Christen Press sandwiched O'Hara's second goal, pushing the SU lead to 6-1.
 
Bourne put the final goal on he board in the 80th minute as Ako sent a low cross before Bourne sent a low shot past the goalie, making it 6-2.
 
The Rainbow Wahine will next host Hawai`i Pacific on Sunday, Aug. 30, at 5 p.m. at the Waipio Peninsula Soccer Stadium.
