Parking Gates To Open One Hour Earlier For UH Football Games

AIEA, Hawai'i – Aloha Stadium and the University of Hawai'i (UH) Athletics Department have teamed up to offer football fans additional tailgating time for UH home games. Parking gates will open one hour earlier than last season, Aloha Stadium Management announced.

The Lower Halawa Parking Lot (Gates 3 and 4) will now open five hours and 30 minutes prior to kickoff, while all other lots (Upper Halawa, UH Reserved, and Kamehameha) will open four hours and 30 minutes before kickoff.

“The request came from UH Athletics Director Jim Donovan for us to take a look at opening earlier to accommodate tailgaters,” Aloha Stadium Manager Scott Chan said. “We talked it over with the appropriate parties and feel this is a situation that can work for everyone.”

Donovan suggested the change to help with accommodating the entire game experience.

“With the parking gates opening an hour earlier, we hope this enhances our fans' tailgating experience,” Donovan said. “We're also hopeful this will alleviate some of the traffic around the stadium leading up to kickoff. We're glad Aloha Stadium management accommodated this request and we hope our fans take advantage of the extra tailgate time while at the same time acting responsibly. We'll try this out for a year and will evaluate it if it was successful.”
