Men’s Golf in Eighth After First Round of WAC Championship

Round 1 Results

HENDERSON, Nevada – The University of Hawai'i men's golf team is currently in eighth place at the 48th annual Western Athletic Conference Championship. In the first round, played Monday at the Rio Secco Golf Club on a 7,332 yard, par-72 course, the Warriors carded an 18-over, 306.
 
Leading UH is sophomore Kamden Brakel who shot an even-par, 72, and is currently tied for 11th place. Three shots back of Brakel is freshman #T.J. Kua# who tied for 25th with a 75.
 
Also competing for the Warriors are freshman Jared Sawada (78/T34th), freshman Pono Calip (81/42nd), and senior Cody Pewarchuk (85/44th).
 
Leading the nine-team field is New Mexico State who carded a six-under par (282). NMSU is followed by Fresno State (287), Idaho (288), San Jose State (292), Utah State (293), Nevada (295), Louisiana Tech (296), Hawai'i (306), and Boise State (307).
 
Grant Doverspike of Fresno State and Travis Reid of New Mexico State sit in a tie for first after firing a first-round 67.
 
The three day tournament continues Tuesday with the second round beginning at 7:30 a.m.
