BOISE, Idaho - The University of Hawai`i men's tennis team picked up its third straight conference win with 6-1 decision over New Mexico State Friday morning at the Appleton Tennis Complex. The Warriors improved to 6-8 overall and 3-1 in the Western Athletic Conference, while the Aggies dropped to 11-9 overall 0-3 in the WAC.
The match started with Hawai'i winning two of three doubles matches for the first point of the day.
Dennis Lajola and
Chad Rubin teamed up for an 8-3 win over Arthur Surreaux and Jim Brouleau at the No. 2 court, while
Craig Faulk and
Sascha Heinemann edged out Stefan McKinney and Gustave Diep, 8-7, to secure the UH doubles point.
In singles play, UH breezed past the Aggies with wins on five of six courts. Four of the five wins were in straight sets. No. 93 Lajola,
Leo Rosenberg,
Andreas Weber, Heinemann and
Jeff Fitch all won on courts one though five, respectively. Heinemann continued his outstanding play as the senior won his eighth straight match with a comfortable 6-1, 6-2 win over Arthur Surreaux at the No. 4 court. Meanwhile, Lajola and Weber won for the fourth straight time in singles play.
The Warriors will now face No. 19 and host Boise State later tonight in another WAC matchup. First serve is set for 5:00 p.m. MT
