Rainbows Finish Second At PCCSC Championships; Earn Spot In Nationals

SAN FRANCISCO – The University of Hawai`i coed sailing team finished second in the PCCSC Dinghy Championships, held April 11-12. By finishing in the top two in their district, the Rainbows qualified for next month's ICSA National Semi-finals in Boston.
 
A total of 24 races, 12 each in the A and B divisions, were completed during the two-day event. UC Santa Barbara won the regatta with a point total of 75, with UH just behind at 85. Host Stanford finished third in the 11-team field with 93 points.
 
The Rainbows were powered by the performance of Andrew Meade and Jaclyn McLoughlin. The pair won the A division, a comfortable 13-points ahead of its nearest competitor. The duo finished in the top two in six of 12 races and never finished below fifth. Meanwhile, UH also got a strong showing the B division with a third place finish. Skippers William Petersen and Ryan Wild and crew Erin Magee and Darla Baldwin totaled 51 points.
 
UH will now make its 11th ever appearance—and seventh in the last nine years—in the ICSA Dinghy Nationals. This is the second year that the ICSA has implemented a semifinal format. Last year UH just missed out on the finals by finishing 10th in the ICSA Semifinals in Long Beach, Calif. This year, all 36 qualifiers with converge in Boston, May 2-3, as the top 18 teams will advance to the finals, June1-3, in San Francisco.
