Women’s Basketball Ends Regular Season With Loss At Nevada

RENO, Nev. – The University of Hawai`i women's basketball team ended its regular season Saturday afternoon with a 75-57 loss against Nevada at the Lawlor Events Center in Reno, Nev. The Rainbow Wahine stay in Reno in preparation for the WAC Tournament, which begins Tuesday, March 10.
 
The Rainbow Wahine finished the regular season with a 7-22 overall record and a 4-12 Western Athletic Conference mark. Nevada improved to 16-13 overall and 10-6 in conference play.
 
UH will enter the WAC Tournament as the No. 8 seed and will face No. 9 seed San Jose State in the opening game of the tournament on Tuesday, March 10 at 5 p.m. PT. The winner of Tuesday's game will face the No. 1 seed on Wednesday, March 11 at 8:30 p.m. PT.
 
On Saturday, the Rainbow Wahine hung with the Wolf Pack for over half the game, before Nevada made a late run to put it out of reach.
 
Offensively Megan Tinnin led the way, scoring 15 points on 4-of-6 shooting, including three 3-pointers. Tinnin also added eight rebounds.
 
Breanna Arbuckle scored 10 points and grabbed three rebounds and Dita Liepkalne added eight points and three rebounds.
 
In the first half, both teams went back-and-forth, with the score tied eight times and the lead changing hands four times. Nevada took the final lead of the half, 33-32.
 
UH had a balanced scoring attack, led by Tinnin's nine points and Arbuckle's eight points. The Rainbow Wahine shot 44.4 percent in the first half, while holding the Wolf Pack to 31.3 percent shooting.
 
The Rainbow Wahine open the 2009 WAC Tournament on Tuesday, March 10 at 5 p.m. PT. UH enters the tournament as the No. 8 seed and will face No. 9 seed San Jose State on the opening day.
