HONOLULU - The University of Hawai`i women's tennis team bounced back to defeat Cal Poly in a close, exciting match, 4-3, Thursday at the UH Tennis Complex. The Rainbow Wahine improves to 8-7 on the season.
UH jumped out to a slow start, losing two of the three doubles matches to drop the doubles point. UH's lone victory came at the No. 1 court as junior
Sophie Kobuch and freshman Ellen Lisenbolz beat Brittany Blalock and Steffi Wong, 8-2.
In singles play, the Rainbow Wahine earned the victory by winning four of the six matches. With the dual match score tied at 3-3, senior
Melinda Wong was clutch, as she bounced back after losing the first set and defeated Diane Filip in three sets to clinch the match for UH at the No. 4 court, 1-6, 6-3, 6-1. In other matches, Kobuch beat Suzie Matzenauer 6-4, 6-0 at the No. 2 position. Freshman
Anja-Vanessa Peter blew past Maria Malec at the No. 3 court, 6-2, 6-1 and at the No. 5 court, freshman
Alyssa Nafarrete attacked her way to 6-2, 6-4 win over Shannon Brady.
The Rainbow Wahine will next host a doubleheader on Saturday, March 28. UH will first play Illinois at 10:00 a.m. and will then face Marshall at 4:00 p.m. Both matches will be played at the UH Tennis Complex.
