HONOLULU – The University of Hawai`i women's basketball team saved its best game for last. On senior night and the home finale, UH scored with nine seconds left to win the game 68-67 over Boise State on Sunday at the Stan Sheriff Center.
Trailing by four points with 1:02 left in the game,
Megan Tinnin hit a 3-pointer to cut the lead to 67-66. Following a Boise State turnover,
Keisha Kanekoa made a layup with nine seconds left to give UH the victory.
With the win, the Rainbow Wahine improve to 7-21 overall and 4-11 in Western Athletic Conference play. Boise State fell to 16-13 overall and 9-6 in conference.
Offensively, Kanekoa recorded her second double-double with 15 points and 10 rebounds. Kanekoa also had seven assists and the game-winner.
Dita Liepkalne scored 15 points, Cho added 12 and Tinnin scored 12, as UH had four players in double figures. The last time UH had four players in double figures was the first time it faced Boise State earlier this year.
To start the second half, the Rainbow Wahine went on a 16-0 run, cutting the 17-point halftime deficit to one with just over 16 minutes left in the game.
In the first half Boise State made five 3-pointers, helping the Broncos take a 39-22 lead at halftime. Boise State shot 40 percent in the first half to UH's 31.3 percent.
Liepkalne led the way offensively with 11 points on 5-of-7 shooting. Cho added four points and Kanekoa had six rebounds and four assists.
The Rainbow Wahine conclude the regular season Saturday, March 7 against Nevada in Reno. Following the finale, UH will stay in Reno for the WAC Tournament, which begins Tuesday, March 10.
