Warriors Open Round 1 of UH-Hilo Invitational

Round 1 Results

KAMUELA, Hawai'i – In a field stacked with Top 20 programs, the University of Hawai'i men's golf team sits in 17th place after the first round of the UH-Hilo Invitational Wednesday at the Mauna Lani Resort North Course.

The Warriors shot 314 as a team but all five golfers posted rounds of 81 or better. Freshman #T.J. Kua# had the team's best round of 76, good for a tie for 47th place. Among the other Warriors were sophomore Kamden Brakel (78, T63rd), freshman Pono Calip (79, T72nd), junior Robert Berton (81, T83rd) and freshman Jared Sawada (81, T83rd).

No. 11 Washington leads the team standings after Round 1 with a 281 followed by No. 2 Southern California (285), Oregon (287), No. 16 Texas Tech (291) and No. 20 TCU (291). Host UH-Hilo's Rodolfo Estrada leads the individual standings after shooting a six-under 66. However Estrada is not one of the team's five scored golfers and is competing as an individual. Without Estrada, UH-Hilo is still in 10th place after shooting a 300.

UH has three golfers competing as individuals – Chase Bingham (81, T83rd), Cody Pewarchuk (87, T98) and Daniel Soglanich (87, T98th).

The tournament continues on Thursday with Round 2.
