SCHOFIELD BARRACKS, O'ahu – The University of Hawai'i men's golf team concluded the John A. Burns Intercollegiate, Friday, at the Leilehua Golf Course. The Warriors stayed consistent, remaining in 14
th place through all three rounds of the tournament, carding a final score of 878 (292-294-292).
Junior
Robert Berton led the way for the Warriors, moving up six places from the second round after shooting a two-under for the day. Berton finished tied for 19
th at 212 with rounds of 70, 72, and 70, his lowest tournament average of the 2008-09 season.
Close behind Berton was freshman #T.J. Kua# who finished tied for 31
st at two-under-par (68-75-71=214). Also competing for UH were sophomore
Kamden Brakel (76-72-76=224/T71st), freshman
Jared Sawada (78-75-75=228/T80th), and freshman
Pono Calip (79-75-77=231/86th).
Texas A&M fought hard to overcome Arizona's six shot lead and win the tournament's team title at 28-under-par, while Arizona took third place with an 840 total. Arizona's Tarquin Macmanus, individual leader going into the third round, fell to New Mexico's James Erkenbeck who won the individual title by one shot at 11-under-par.
The Warriors head to Fresno next to compete in the Fresno State Lexus Classic, March 9-10.
