RUSTON, La. – The University of Hawai`i women's basketball team dropped the first game of a two-game road trip Friday night against Louisiana Tech, 68-56, at the Thomas Assembly Center in Ruston, La.
The Rainbow Wahine got behind early in the first half, but continued to battle the Lady Techsters all game. With the loss UH falls to 5-18 on the season and 2-8 in WAC play. Louisiana Tech improved to 13-11 overall and 6-4 during conference action.
Offensively,
Megan Tinnin led the way, recording her first career double-double with 10 points and a career-high 12 rebounds. Tinnin went 4-for-13 from the field and added three assists.
As a team UH shot 36 percent from the field, while Louisiana Tech shot 37 percent. Louisiana Tech only committed seven turnovers, while UH had 30.
In the first half, the Rainbow Wahine fell behind early, but battled back to cut into the Lady Techsters' lead. UH trailed 31-21 at the break.
After the first 20 minutes, Kanekoa scored nine points for the Rainbow Wahine, including two 3-pointers. Tinnin added five points and Hittle had eight rebounds. UH led the rebounding battle, grabbing 25 boards to Louisiana Tech's 18.
The Rainbow Wahine return to action Sunday, Feb. 15 when they travel to Las Cruces, N.M. to face New Mexico State at 5 p.m. MT.
