Warriors Take Two-Game Win Streak To San Jose State

Game Notes

The University of Hawai'i Warrior football team, riding a two-game win streak, will make its final road trip of the season for a Western Athletic Conference match-up with San Jose State, Saturday, Nov. 21. Kickoff is 5:00 p.m. PT (3:00 p.m. HT) at Spartan Stadium.

After suffering through an excruciating six-game losing streak, the Warriors (4-6, 2-5 WAC) have won two straight after a 24-6 victory over New Mexico State on Saturday. Quarterback Bryant Moniz passed for 294 yards before leaving the game in the fourth quarter. Backup Shane Austin finished the game 8-of-11 for 72 yards and one touchdown.

Slot receiver Greg Salas broke the school's single-game reception record with 16 catches for a career-high 196 yards and one score. Running back Leon Wright-Jackson had 43 yards rushing and scored two touchdowns.

NMSU's only touchdown was off an interception and the Warrior defense shutout an opponent's offense for the first time since 2005. UH also allowed a season-low 244 yards of total offense to the Aggies.

The Spartans (1-8, 0-5) dropped a 24-9 decision to Utah State in Logan, Utah last week extending their losing streak to five games. SJSU has been out-scored 201-69 during that span. Head coach Dick Tomey, who also coached UH from 1977-86 during a 46-year coaching career, will retire following this season.

SJSU leads the overall series with Hawai'i, 16-15-1. SJSU snapped a seven-game losing streak in the series with a 20-17 victory at Aloha Stadium last season. However, in games played in San Jose, Calif., UH has won four straight dating back to 1997. In their last meeting at Spartan Stadium in 2007, quarterback Colt Brennan directed an improbable come-from-behind overtime victory, which kept alive UH's undefeated regular season. Brennan helped the Warriors score two touchdowns in the final four minutes of regulation, then threw the game-winning pass to Jason Rivers in overtime for a 42-35 victory.
