Youth Prevails As UH Soccer Beats Alumnae 2-1

WAIPAHU, O'ahu – The University of Hawai'i Rainbow Wahine soccer team outlasted the alumnae 2-1 in the annual alumnae match at the Waipi'o Peninsula Soccer Stadium Friday.
 
Jessica Marote led the way for the varsity, finishing with three points on a goal and an assist. She also had a match-high five shots taken. Vanessa Bailey also scored for UH while taking three shots. Kristina Ehrett played all 90 minutes in goal, making five saves.
 
The alumnae got the scoring started early as Taryn Fukuroku flicked a pass to Adria Campbell before Campbell sent the ball in the back of the net for a goal in the fourth minute of the match.
 
Bailey tied it up in the 22nd minute, scoring on a goal that was assisted by Marote. Marote then broke the stalemate in the 28th minute, scoring an unassisted goal to give the varsity the 2-1 victory.

Goalkeeper Amanda Paterson stole the show for alumnae, recording 15 saves.
 
Hawai'i will next head on the road for WAC matches at Louisiana Tech and New Mexico State, on Oct. 16 and 18, respectively.
