Rainbow Wahine Soccer Beats Utah State 3-1 On Senior Night

Box Score

WAIPAHU, O'ahu – Led by senior Ambree Ako's two-goal performance, the University of Hawai'i Rainbow Wahine soccer team (6-10-1, 2-4-0 WAC) defeated the Utah State Aggies (8-8-2, 3-2-1 WAC) 3-1 in front of crowd of 1,012 on senior night at the Waipi'o Peninsula Soccer Stadium Sunday.

Ako ended the night with two goals on seven shots, three which were on goal. Fellow seniors Kristyn Shapka and Kelsie Look also helped the cause offensively. Shapka scored a goal with Look adding an assist.

The Rainbow Wahine jumped on the board early as Shapka scored on a header to the far post after a corner kick was deflected in the fifth minute. But Utah State responded quickly, scoring just over a minute later as Shantel Flanary took a deflection off a UH defender and sent it to the back of the net.

Ako gave Hawai'i the lead in the 32nd minute, scoring on a penalty kick after she was tackled in the box.

The 'Aiea, O'ahu, native then put it away in the 60th minute, after Look dribbled past two defenders, setting up Ako for shot past the USU goalie.

The Rainbow Wahine will now head out on the road for two matches at Boise State and Idaho on Oct. 30 and Nov. 1, respectively.
