UH Soccer Drops Hard-Luck 2-1 Match To Nevada

Box Score

WAIPAHU, O'ahu – Despite outshooting the opposition 25-6, the University of Hawai'i Rainbow Wahine soccer team (5-10-1, 1-4-0 WAC) fell to the Nevada Wolf Pack (6-11-0, 3-3-0) in front of a crowd of 469 at the Waipi'o Peninsula Soccer Stadium Friday.

Ambree Ako scored while taking six shots, three on goal. Britta Bourne added an assist while taking two shots. Chelsea Deptula took five shots, with one on goal, while Brittani Lum took four shots with two on goal.

Ako put the Rainbow Wahine ahead early on, scoring just 10 minutes into the match on a low shot to the far post after Bourne sent a short header across the box.

But Nevada quickly responded, scoring just 25 seconds later as Annabelle Allen scored on a low cross that deflected off a UH defender.

The Wolf Pack then took the lead in the 30th minute as Natalie Ratnavira scored after two UH defenders collided in the box.

Hawai'i had its chances, taking five more shots in the first half, before outshooting the Pack 13-2 in the second half. Ako had a couple of great shots down the stretch. But one was punched out by UN goalie Marie Cove, just below the cross bar, with another hitting the bottom of the cross bar before bouncing out.

The Rainbow Wahine next host Utah State on Oct. 25, at 5 p.m., for senior night at Waipi'o Peninsula Soccer Stadium.
