Tinnin Hits Game-Winner In Rainbow Wahine Victory Over Aggies

LOGAN, Utah – Megan Tinnin made a layup with 17.5 seconds left in the game to give the University of Hawai`i a 63-61 victory over Utah State on Friday night at the Dee Glen Smith Spectrum in Logan, Utah.
 
The victory snaps the Rainbow Wahine's eight-game losing streak and gives them their first road win and WAC win of the year.
 
With the score tied at 61-61, Dita Liepkalne took the ball at the top of the key and found a cutting Tinnin on the block, who made the layup for the lead. Utah State had two attempts to end the game, but both a 3-pointer and a jumper came up short.
 
UH improved to 4-16 overall and 1-6 in conference play. Utah State dropped to 10-11 overall and 4-4 in WAC action. The Rainbow Wahine split the series with the Aggies, after Utah State won at UH last week.
 
Offensively Tinnin led the way with a season-high 22 points. Tinnin went 8-for-12 from the field and 4-for-7 from long range. Dita Liepkalne added 10 points and five rebounds and Keisha Kanekoa added seven points and seven rebounds.
 
After trailing by as many as 13 in the first half, the Rainbow Wahine made a comeback early in the second half and tied the game 39-39 after a Tinnin 3-pointer with 15 minutes remaining in the game.
 
Utah State continued to hold a lead, but Dita Liepkalne hit a 3-pointer with 6:45 left in the game to give UH a 55-52 lead, its first since the score was 5-2.
 
In the first half the Rainbow Wahine fell behind early, but rallied late in the half to cut the Aggies' lead to 35-29. Tinnin led the way with nine points and Kanekoa had five points and five rebounds.
 
UH shot 44 percent from the field, while Utah State shot 45.7 percent. The Rainbow Wahine committed 15 turnovers, while the Aggies had seven.
 
The Rainbow Wahine return to action Sunday, Feb. 1 when they take on Idaho at 2 p.m. in Moscow, Idaho. UH returns to the island for one game against San Jose State on Feb. 6 at 7 p.m.
