HONOLULU – The University of Hawai`i women's basketball team lost its Western Athletic Conference home opener against Nevada, 69-50 Saturday afternoon at the Stan Sheriff Center.
The Rainbow Wahine fell down early to the Wolf Pack, but continued to battle until the end. With the loss UH moved to 3-14 overall and 0-4 in conference play. Nevada stayed on top of the WAC as it improved to 4-0 and 10-7 overall.
The Rainbow Wahine improved their shooting in the second half, connecting on 41.7 percent of their shots. UH had 12 steals and forced Nevada into 23 turnovers and 37.7 percent shooting from the field.
In the first half, the Rainbow Wahine were led by
Tara Hittle, who scored five points and added two rebounds and two steals in 16 minutes of action. UH shot 30.4 percent from the field, while Nevada shot 37.9 percent from the field.
The Rainbow Wahine recorded eight steals in the half, forcing Nevada into 14 turnovers.
UH returns to action Friday, Jan. 23 against Fresno State at 7 p.m. The Rainbow Wahine conclude their three-game WAC home stand against Utah State on Sunday, Jan. 25 at 5 p.m.
