PORTLAND, Ore. – The University of Hawai`i women's soccer team began its three-game road trip with a 1-1 tie against Portland State Friday night in Portland, Ore.
Both teams scored first half goals and played the final 65 minutes scoreless. The Rainbow Wahine moved to 3-3-3 overall and Portland State is now 1-8-2.
In the first half, UH got on the board first when sophomore
Mari Punzal scored her first goal of the season. Junior
Ambree Ako assisted on the goal in the 16
th minute.
Portland State tied the game right before the end of the first half. With 30 seconds left in the opening 45 minutes, the Vikings' Kala Renard scored her first goal of the game to tie the score.
The defense shut down the Vikings in the second half, including goalkeeper
Kori Lu, who finished with three saves.
Offensively senior
Taryn Fukuroku had four shots, including three on goal, Punzal had four shots and Ako added two shots.
UH travels to Seattle to face the No. 21 Washington Huskies for its second game of the road trip Sunday, Sept. 28 at 12 p.m. (9 a.m. HT). The Rainbow Wahine conclude their road trip Tuesday, Sept. 30 against Cal State Fullerton.
