HONOLULU - The University of Hawai'i women's tennis team dropped a 7-0 decision to powerhouse and No. 27 Pepperdine, Wednesday, at the UH Tennis Complex. The Rainbow Wahine fall to 0-8 on the year, six of those losses coming against ranked opponents.
The Waves (8-3) won the doubles point by sweeping all three doubles match. The No. 9 team of Sylvia Kosakowski and Bianca Dulgheru defeated the duo of sophomore Sophie Kobuch and senior Chloe Bihag, 8-2, at the No. 1 court.
In singles play, the Rainbow Wahine fought valiantly but lost all six matches. Kobuch, ranked No. 81 in the latest ITA singles rankings, lost a tight 7-5, 6-4 decision to No. 63 Kosakowski at the No. 1 position. Bihag fell in straight sets to No. 48 Anamika Bhargava, 6-2, 6-4, at the No. 2 court. Freshman Jennifer Goldman fought back and nearly forced a third set against Tania Rice, but in the end fell, 6-1, 7-6(4) at the No. 6 position.
The Rainbow Wahine will continue their homestand by hosting tennis powerhouse and No. 19 Notre Dame, Friday, March 7. First serve is set at 4:00 p.m. at the UH Tennis Complex.
