No. 8 UCLA Sweeps Rainbow Wahine Tennis

HONOLULU - The University of Hawai'i women's tennis team was overpowered by Pac-10 tennis powerhouse and No. 8 UCLA, 7-0, Tuesday, at the UH Tennis Complex. The Rainbow Wahine, in search of their first dual match victory of the 2008 season, have now lost eleven matches to top-ranked opponents.

The Bruins (13-4) won the doubles point by sweeping all three doubles matches. At the No. 1 court, the UH duo of sophomore Sophie Kobuch and senior Chloe Bihag gave UCLA's Elizabeth Lumpkin and Alex McGoodwin a tough battle, but in the end fell, 8-6.

In singles play, the Rainbow Wahine (0-14) lost all six matches. Kobuch, ranked No. 88 in the latest ITA singles rankings, dropped a tough match to No. 47 Tracy Lin at the No. 1 court, 6-3, 6-2. Bihag played well but fell to No. 50 Andrea Remynse at the No. 2 court, 6-2, 6-4. UCLA features five ranked singles players. In 2007, the Bruins reached the NCAA finals, losing to Georgia Tech.

The Rainbow Wahine will complete their 12-match homestand by hosting NAIA powerhouse, Azusa Pacific on April 9. First serve is set at 4:00 p.m. at the UH Tennis Complex.
