HONOLULU - The University of Hawai'i women's tennis team fell to Southeastern Conference tennis powerhouse and No. 20 Tennessee, 7-0, Tuesday, at the UH Tennis Complex. The Rainbow Wahine, in search of their first dual match victory of the 2008 season, have now lost ten matches to top-ranked opponents.
The Lady Volunteers (10-4) won the doubles point by sweeping all three doubles matches. The UH duo of sophomore Sophie Kobuch and senior Chloe Bihag lost to the ninth-ranked doubles team of Caitlin Whoriskey and Zsofia Zubor, 8-4 at the No. 1 court.
In singles play, the Rainbow Wahine (0-12) dropped all six matches. After dropping a close, 7-5 first set, Kobuch, ranked No. 88 in the latest ITA singles rankings, battled back and crushed No. 71 Whoriskey in the second set, 6-2. However, the sophomore fell in the third-set super tie-breaker, dropping the first singles match, 7-5, 2-6, 1-0 (5). Bihag lost a tight three set match to Samantha Orlin at the No. 2 court, 1-6, 6-0, 1-0 (8).
The Rainbow Wahine will continue their homestand by hosting No. 69 Cornell on Thursday, March 20. First serve is set at 4:00 p.m. at the UH Tennis Complex.
