HONOLULU - The University of Hawai'i women's tennis team dropped a 6-1 dual match decision to No. 59 New Mexico Monday at the UH Tennis Complex. The Rainbow Wahine, in search of their first dual match victory of the 2008 season, have now lost nine matches to top-ranked opposition.

The Lobos (6-5) won the doubles point by winning two of the three doubles match. However, the UH duo of sophomore Sophie Kobuch and senior Chloe Bihag beat Lucy Scott and Sandra Zmak at the No. 1 court, 8-5. Kobuch and Bihag lead the team with nine doubles triumphs this season.

New Mexico clinched the doubles point with a victory at the No. 2 court. UH freshmen Natasha Zorec and Jennifer Goldman lost a tight 9-8 (3) decision to Mackenzie White and Maria Sotirchos.

In singles play, the Rainbow Wahine (0-11) won one of the six matches. Kobuch, ranked No. 81 in the latest ITA singles rankings, won her match at the No. 1 position, dominating No. 116 Ola Abou-Zekry in straight sets, 6-1, 6-1. Zorec lost a heartbreaking match in the third set super tie-breaker to Scott at the No. 4 court, 2-6, 6-4, 1-0(11) and Goldman dropped a 6-4, 6-3 two-hour marathon to Jennifer Ryba at the No. 6 position.

The Rainbow Wahine will continue their homestand by hosting tennis powerhouse and No. 20 Tennessee on Tuesday, March 18. First serve is set at 4:00 p.m. at the UH Tennis Complex.
