No. 13 Duke Overpowers Rainbow Wahine Tennis

HONOLULU - The University of Hawai'i women's tennis team lost to Atlantic Coast Conference tennis powerhouse and 13th-ranked Duke, 7-0, Thursday, at the UH Tennis Complex. The Rainbow Wahine dropped their 10th straight match, eight of those losses coming against top ranked opponents.

The Blue Devils (8-1) earned the doubles point by sweeping all three matches. At the No. 1 court, the duo of sophomore Sophie Kobuch and senior Chloe Bihag gave a tough battle against the No. 3 ranked doubles team in the nation of Melissa Mang and Amanda Granson, but in the end fell, 8-5.

In singles play, the Rainbow Wahine lost all six matches. Kobuch, ranked No. 81 in the latest ITA singles rankings, lost a heartbreaking three set match to Tyra Iyer, 6-1, 2-6, 1-0 (4) at the No. 1 position.

The Rainbow Wahine will continue their homestand by hosting tennis powerhouse and No. 59 New Mexico on Monday, March 17 and No. 20 Tennessee on Tuesday, March 18. First serve for both matches is set at 4:00 p.m. at the UH Tennis Complex.
